Do Me Bad Things

With The Darkness bringing back a new sense of novelty to the Rock scene which hasn’t been seen since GWAR last came over to the UK, Do Me Bad Things seem like an inevitable progression. Following the leaders is not so much the case in this instance. The band is made up from 9 make up wearing members, they don’t however look or sound anything like the other known 9 piece, Slipknot. Each member adds to the rather strange intricate sound which they make, it’s not so much the sound though it’s the level of variety on the album.
From stupendous and massive 80’s style Van Halen riffs ‘The Song Rides’, to a cross between Grunge masters Jerry Cantrel, Chris Cornell, and Mark Lanegans swoons on ‘Molly’s Wood’ its just abit strange. Even a Skin-esque balled ‘Off The Hook’ has Queen fashioned choir vocals which are also present on ‘Time For Deliverance’ and basically the whole entirety of this album, many a Rock yodel would put The Darkness to shame. The Beach Boy harmonies are also a welcome plus. This level of intricacy is mainly due to the fact that 6 out of 9 band members sing on the album. Its like a traveling choir, I am sure they won’t have a need to hire any backing vocals in the near future. Imagine The Darkness seducing The Scissor Sisters listening to Van Halen whilst Mark Lanegan watches. Yes it is that strange! Exciting and uplifting whilst also somber and listenable, it is perfect driving album. If you enjoy mixed genre albums with lots of fun stuff going on then this is an album you cannot afford to miss.
