While on Guadalcanal his fellow Marines gave him the nickname "Manila John" due to his former service in the Philippines. On October 24, 1942 his unit engaged the Japanese in the Lunga area when their position came under attack by a regiment of approximately 3000 soldiers. The Japanese forces began a frontal attack using machine-guns, grenades and mortars against the American heavy machine-guns. The American forces fought for the next 48 hours until only Basilone and two other men from his squad were still able to continue fighting. Basilone moved an extra gun into position and maintained continual fire against the incoming Japanese forces. He repaired another machine-gun and personally manned it, holding the defensive line until replacements arrived. With the continuous fighting, ammunition became critically low and supply lines were cut off. Basilone fought through hostile lines and returned with urgently needed ammunition for his gunners. By the end of the battle, the Japanese regiment was virtually annihilated. For his actions during this battle he received the United States military's highest award for bravery, the Medal of Honor.

Afterwards Private First Class Nash W. Phillips, of Fayetteville, North Carolina, recalled him from the battle for Guadalcanal: "Basilone had a machine gun on the go for three days and nights without sleep, rest or food". "He was in a good emplacement, and causing the Japs lots of trouble, not only firing his machine gun but also using his pistol."

Treme is an upcoming American drama television series created by David Simon (The Wire) and Eric Overmyer. The series takes place three months after Hurricane Katrina where the residents of New Orleans, including musicians, chefs, Mardi Gras Indians and ordinary New Orleanians try to rebuild their lives, their homes and their unique culture in the aftermath of the 2005 hurricane. (...) The show was envisioned to focus on the working class Treme neighborhood in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and will be smaller in scope than The Wire, which examined an entire city (...) Simon has stated that the series will explore beyond the music scene to encompass political corruption, the public housing controversy, the criminal-justice system, clashes between police and Mardi Gras Indians, and the struggle to regain the tourism industry after the storm.

Y es que además la serie no baja el listón, el primero de la tercera temporada no fue un mal capítulo, pero es que acabo de ver el segundo y, joder que grande.

Sobre la futura serie de The Walking Dead, dirigida por Frank Darabont:

-AMC ha dado luz verde a la serie. En principio serán 6 episodios y si las cosas van bien se podría estrenar en octubre de este año.

-La compañía de efectos KNB se encargará de la serie. Ya trabajaron con Darabont en La Niebla.

-Jonny Lee Miller es el actor con más posibilidades para ser Rick.

Vaya, pese a que Sawyer tiene un carisma importante*, ver a Sick Boy matando zombies tiene su punto.








* Aunque en el último capítulo que vi de Perdidos (van de PWNED!! en PWNEDD!! a cada escena que hacen nueva) vi al personaje más cool de la serie experimentando un cambio vital viendo La Casa de la Pradera (FAIL!!!),.
